The Aspen Indigenous Foundation will present a Native American drum and dance program Saturday at 4pm in Wagner Park. The event is being held to promote cultural awareness and education about Indigenous peoples. Performers will include eight dancers, including award-winning "fancy dancer" and Indigenous Foundation cultural advisor Larry Yazzie. A group of four Lakota drummers and a Ute elder, who will bless the ceremony in the Ute language, will round out the performers. Deanne Vitrac-Kessler, the executive director of the Aspen Indigenous Foundation, is excited to bring this group to Aspen and to highlight the "rich culture they're going to see" - something that most people would not be exposed to unless they were attending a formal pow wow. The Indigenous Foundation works to support Native American communities, foster understanding and promotion of Indigenous culture and present performances such as the one tomorrow in Wagner Park. It's a great opportunity to experience Native American culture in an intimate setting in our small town.
