Now in its 7th year, the Aspen Valley Marathon has become well regarded as one of the most scenic marathons in the country, and one of the top 30 qualifying events for the Boston Marathon. The all-downhill road race drops more than 1400 feet in elevation as racers run from Aspen to Basalt, along the Rio Grande Trail. In addition to the full marathon, a half marathon and a 5K race are options for those who aren't ready for 26.2 miles of running. The Marathon is also a fundraiser for three local non-profits - the Aspen Hope Center, Challenge Aspen and Aspen Youth Center.
