We were all disappointed when the Aspen Ideas Festival and the Aspen Music Festival were cancelled in May. But in yesterday's newspapers, there was great news for those of us who treasure our experiences at both institutions. It has been announced that both organizations will be presenting virtual programming this summer, and the programs will all be free to the public.
The Aspen Ideas Festival will run a series of programs nightly at 5pm from June 28-July 2. Each broadcast will run between 60-90 minutes in length. Speakers will include Dr. Anthony Fauci, Michael Eric Dyson, William McRaven, and former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, with topics of discussion dealing with the most important issues of the day. Details on the Ideas Festival may be found at https://www.aspenideas.org/.
The Aspen Music Festival will be offering a virtual summer season from July 4-August 23. Among the offerings will be recitals, the popular High Notes conversations, faculty/student showcases, and performances by renowned arts such as Augustin Haedelich, Jeremy Denk, and Reneé Fleming. All programs are offered for free. The virtual calendar can be found at http://www.aspenmusicfestival.com/events/calendar.
