Aspen Snowmass announced Tuesday that they will be hosting the FIS Snowboard and Freeski World Championships next month, March 8-16.  Utilizing the outstanding halfpipe at Buttermilk originally built for the X Games, this event will be held without an audience and will be modeled on the Skiing Company's successful X Games procedures. Aspen is replacing the original host venue of the championships, Zhangiakou, China, where the event was to be held between February 18-28. The Aspen competitions will include slopestyle, halfpipe and big air on both snowboard and freeski.  A statement on Tuesday from the International Ski Federation (FIS) said that Aspen will also be hosting four other World Cup competitions after the world championships - in snowboard slopestyle, snowboard halfpipe and freeski slopestyle and halfpipe. Those additional events will take place from March 18-21.
