For skiers who love to traverse the quiet west side of Aspen Mountain, the closure of Lift 1A has been tough. The lift closed on December 31, when it was discovered that part of the gearbox was broken. Happily the Ski Co announced today that a replacement part is being installed, and the lift should beginning running again this weekend. The seven-ton gearbox was shipped from the Leitner-Poma lift manufacturing plant in Grand Junction and installation has been underway this week. Once work is completed and testing of the lift has been done, lovers of the slow lift experience will have much to celebrate. Slowly, of course.
