Independence Pass is on track to open on Thursday, May 21, so one of your last opportunities to ride on Highway 82 without car traffic is happening this Saturday, with the 21st annual Ride for the Pass. This yearly benefit for the Independence Pass Foundation begins at 10am at the winter gate east of Aspen and ends at the ghost town of Independence. In addition to the bike race, there is a recreational ride component and an after-party to be held at the St. Regis, with drawings for prizes donated by various local businesses. Pre-registration is encouraged and can be completed today or tomorrow in person at the Limelight Hotel, or by registering online at www.independencepass.org.
