Every year towards the end of March, the Gore-Tex Grand Traverse (formerly the Elk Mountain Grand Traverse) is one of the most challenging of the year's endurance races. This year the 40-mile race begins in Crested Butte at midnight tomorrow night, March 24, when two-person teams of skiers depart on the overnight race. During the course of the race, participants will tackle 7,800 feet of altitude gain as they traverse the Elk Mountain Range, ending by skiing down to the finish line in Aspen on Saturday morning. Kind of puts your typical Saturday work out to shame, doesn't it?
