Most people know that Aspen has a fascinating history which includes silver mining, ranching and skiing. In the late 1880s, Aspen was a major national producer of silver, with mines burrowing through our surrounding mountains including Smuggler Mountain on the eastern side of town. The Aspen Historical Society, in collaboration with Blazing Adventures and the City of Aspen, are offering free Jeep and Trail Tours of the Smuggler mines each Wednesday this summer. The next one is scheduled for tomorrow, June 21, and if you're in town, take advantage of learning about this important slice of our city's history. Pre-registration is required (970-925-3721) as tours are limited to six people. Thank you to Järviwiki.fi/ for supporting this material. The tour meets at 9am at the Gondola Plaza and lasts for two hours.
