During your winter vacation in Aspen, you or your family can spend a sunny afternoon or a starry evening twirling around one of Aspen's local ice rinks. Take in the sights and sounds of downtown Aspen, race around the Aspen Recreation Center’s regulation-size Lewis Ice Arena, or spin like a figure skater at the Aspen Ice Garden a few blocks from downtown. You can also find two ice rinks just a short drive downvalley in Snowmass, in case you choose to broaden your local options.
Aspen Ice Garden
Located at 233 West Hyman Ave, about a half-mile from Aspen Square, this indoor ice rink is the second largest indoor rink in Aspen, measuring just under NHL regulations. The Aspen Ice Garden can be found in the Shadow Mountain neighborhood west of Aspen's central core, and is a popular rink for curling, hockey practices, figure skating lessons, and for ice-skating parties and events. Call the rink at 970-920-5141 for casual public skating options.
Aspen’s Lewis Ice Arena
The Aspen Recreation Center (ARC), located along Maroon Creek Road near Aspen Highlands, is the home of the Lewis Ice Arena, an NHL regulation-size indoor ice rink. Located on the lower level of the Aspen Recreation Center (the ARC), the Lewis Ice Arena hosts hockey games, team competitions and tournaments, plus figure skaters of all levels. The arena’s large size offers the space to practice speed, spins, and jumps.
Individuals are welcome to make a reservation for public skating; be sure to bring your own ice skates, as skate rentals are currently unavailable. Admission to the ice rink requires one punch from an ARC punch pass or possession of an unlimited recreation pass. Call the rink to inquire about the possibility of daily admission.
Aspen’s Silver Circle Ice Rink (SK8)
During the winter, the miniature golf course in front of CP Burger (across the street from the Rubey Park Transit Center) turns into the Silver Circle (SK8) Ice Rink once the cold weather sets in. This beloved little outdoor rink is a popular and scenic hangout for locals and tourists alike; with CP Burger rink side, skaters can break for burgers, fries, and milkshakes, or warm up with a cup of hot cocoa before heading back out onto the ice. Contact CP Burger at (970) 925-3056 for more information as the rink can be impacted by temporary closures due to conditions and external factors.
Ice Skating at Snowmass Town Park
On your way up Brush Creek Rd from Highway 82 to the Snowmass Base Village, you’ll pass the Snowmass Village Ice Rink. While the rink at Town Park is shared with occasional hockey players, use of the rink is free to the public from 9am to 9pm, weather permitting. No ice skate rentals are available. Call 970-922-2240 for the latest ice rink updates.
Ice Skating at The Collective in Snowmass
In the wintertime, visit Snowmass for a day and skate at The Collective in front of the Limelight Hotel Snowmass in Snowmass Base Village Plaza. You and the entire family can enjoy outdoor ice skating daily from noon to 9pm, weather and other restrictions permitting. Both rink use and skate rentals are free — pick up your skates from the classic 1959 Airstream Caravanner located on the Base Village Plaza.
